Tamme Webb (Shiflett)

Tamme Webb-Shiflett

My best friend and amazing wife, Tamara “Tamme” Dawn Webb-Shiflett, unexpectedly passed away at home on July 8, 2023. Tamme was born in Los Angeles, California on January 10, 1963 to Cliff and Dawn Webb. And though she never relinquished her identity as a Californian, Tamme spent most of her life in Utah. Most recently Tamme lived in Midvale with her husband William Shiflett, sons Jonathan and Ethan, and beloved pets Boo Boo and Teddy.

Always a little mischievous, Tamme lived her life to its fullest at all times and lit up every room she entered. Tamme was a serial entrepreneur with a literal genius intellect. After scoring 186 points (out of 200) on an IQ test, Tamme was identified as being someone who would use their intellect to accomplish great things but only if she did so her way. And Tamme did most everything her way throughout her entire life.

In high school, Tamme decided she would like to have her own weekly column in the Daily Herald. Though she had no previous experience or training Tamme convinced the paper to hire her and publish her weekly youth focused articles. After attending college Tamme owned clothing stores in downtown Provo and had a varied career in Los Angeles which included working as a stand-up comedian. One of her jobs was at a boutique clothing store frequented by top billing actors. Much to her disappointment, her sister Tiffany declined to go with Judd Nelson whom Tamme had convinced to take for a ride on his motorcycle.

Eventually, Tamme made her way back to Utah, met her first husband Bill Henry, and started Scrap in a Snap. After growing and later closing Scrap in a Snap, Tamme and Bill moved to Connecticut where she worked as Chief Creative Officer for a large catalogue company. Within two years they both returned to Utah where Tamme first suffered the loss of Bill and then had to overcome the greatest challenge of her life. Not many who met Tamme within the last 15 years knew she was a recovering alcoholic and substance addict. When Tamme completed her rehabilitation, she was told by her judge and a counselor that she was the only person known to survive an addiction to canned air. These challenges reshaped how Tamme viewed the world and interacted with her loved ones. Every single day Tamme was grateful for the love and commitment of her sisters and parents during her darkest days.

In 2010, Tamme met her second husband William and they were married just 9 months later. They lived in the Avenues, created a business, and spent the majority of their time introducing Jonathan and Ethan to the wonders of the world and secret spaces in the city. After shuttering their business in 2012, Tamme dedicated her time, talent and efforts to her family and friends. In 2021, Tamme embarked on a new entrepreneurial endeavor she named Pretty in Ink. For nearly two years Tamme taught herself how to make jewelry, develop a marketing strategy, and created hundreds of handmade pieces. Tamme said she enjoyed creating jewelry more than any business she had before.

Even though Tamme accomplished so much throughout her life she said nothing came close to being a mom to Jonathan and Ethan. Tamme was a fiercely proud mama bear and incredibly grateful to be a mom to her boys. She also loved being a mom to Teddy, the family dog, and allowed to cohabitate with Boo Boo, the family cat. All are grateful for having Tamme be a daily part of their life for nearly 13 years except for Boo Boo who is self admittedly a bit of a jerk.

Tamme is survived by her husband William Shiflett, step-sons Will (Kyrsten), Jonathan, and Ethan, sisters Cindy (Jim), Debbi (Rob), and Tiffany (Scott), sister-in-law Lisa (Chuck), parents-in-law Bill and Darla, several cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and dozens of BFFs which include, but are not limited to Rob, Kip, Sandie, Toni, Larry, Carole, Lara, and Nina.

We are gathering to remember and celebrate Tamme on July 14, 2023 at the Midvale 3rd Ward which is located at 7825 S Olympus Street in Midvale. An open house will occur from 10 AM until Noon with a funeral ceremony occurring immediately thereafter. At 2 PM we will have a short graveside service at the Salt Lake City Cemetery immediately near 1100 East Cypress Avenue.
